Okay, I am not going to give you some ninja strategy about talking to your kids about their hormones.
I am not qualified to give you that sort of advice, but I do have something I can give you. A secret that myself and my clients use and have used for over ten years to soothe that annoying and angry teenage hormone beast.
Are you ready? Get a pen… Okay, here it is… ‘Here, eat this!’ (and give them something to eat) I can see your eyeballs rolling from here but stay with me for just a second.
Advertising for menopause treatments (which is at the other end of the hormone spectrum) always included nutrition guidelines.
So why is it not included in guides for hormonal, pimply, often taller than you, two-year-old style tantrum-throwing teens?
What we put in their mouths is going to help them from the inside out. And yes, I know that they might eat junk at school or on the way home but if you are in control of the food that is available for them in the morning and at night, then you have a much better chance of helping to regulate their moods with food.
I could go into the science but for most of you, you know yourself when you eat better you feel better.
You know the cravings you have when you are hormonal, and you know what happens when you give in to those cravings and feed the hormonal monster sugar…
And yes, I know that cooking for the whole family and making sure that there is always healthy foods and snacks on hand can be a challenge. I know you might think, well they are old enough to cook for themselves.
But here is the thing.
I still cook for my teens because even though I don’t particularly enjoy cooking, I enjoy having to deal with moody teenagers even less!
